On this page I present my microtonal works and appearances in reversed chronological order. It functions pretty much like a playlist, scroll down and listen to the music of your choice!

Sunshine and Shade (Todd Harrop, 2020), for solo electric guitar, was written in Gary Morrison’s 88-cent scale on a 41tone instrument, viz. every third fret of the 82-fret Lucid Movinguitar. Since the scale neatly divides the perfect fifth into 8 equal steps my next incentive came from Iacobus de Ispania (d. after 1330), who is reported to have classified the 9/4 major ninth as a concord, and I composed as if using a scale of 16 chromatic steps per doubly-augmented octave. In each of the two movements only nine pitch classes are used, such that key transpositions at the perfect fifth would be most harmonically distant and transpositions at the diminished fifth would be least distant, in contrast to our conventional diatonic scale system. Dedicated to Victoria Harrop.

Der Gletscher (Christian Klinkenberg, 2020), a peaceful coexistence of different microtonal scales and modes, including the 41-tone guitar. Click here for more info, buy here or stream on Spotify!

Beyond the Horizon (Bohlen-Pierce Clarinet Project group, 2020). The new GENUIN CD offers fascinating acoustic experiments with compositions based on the tonal system of the Bohlen-Pierce scale. This system uses a twelfth instead of an octave and is divided into thirteen tonal steps, taking the listener into magical-archaic tonal worlds that transcend all listening habits. I contributed 41-tone guitar on three tracks. Here’s a sample from Maelstrom by Todd Harrop, from the Genuin-website where you can purchase this album. Also available on Spotify.
